    Lean Horse 100
    Dear Lean Horse Family,

Sorry about the delay for announcing the dates for the 2018 Lean Horse 100 Race but here they are with some big changes coming. The 100 mile and 100 mile Relay will now start on Friday August 17 at 12:00 PM and the course will be open for 32 hours now. Then on Saturday August 18 the 50 mile will start on at 6:00 AM with the 30 mile starting at 8:00 AM and the 20 mile at 10:00 AM. The reason for the changes is that the 100 mile races will continue to be an out and back race, but now the 50, 30 and 20 mile races will be point to point races. Same course but now an opportunity for more runners to see more of the beautiful Mickelson Trail during the event. We are in the process of updating the website with all of the new information. It will take us some time to make all of the updates because we are working through several new planning items but I know that everyone will love the changes. We will keep you up to date with all of the changes as they happen.

Registration is open at Ultra Signup.

We all look forward to seeing all of our old Lean Horse Friends and meeting new ones in August.

Royce Wuertzer Is the 100 mile run really starting at noon on Friday? 12 p.m. is noon. I would think that that would make the pre-race meeting really early on Friday.

I'm looking forward to running Lean Horse in 2018, but do you really think that course warrants a 32 hour cutoff for the 100 mile finish time? Anything over 30 usually implies technical terrain, high elevation, and a significant amount of climbing.

I am excited for this and will be my first attempt at the 100 mile distance!!

While I have thoroughly enjoyed this ultra in the past, fully understanding the changes in organizers and such, I hope you all will finally settle on a course and plan and leave it as such for a while.... these constant changes... meh...

Lean Horse 100 The 2017 cutoff time for the 100 miles read 9pm at the turnaround for a start time of 6am on Saturday. Will the 2018 cutoffs be updated accordingly? Really looking forward to it. Thank you!

Who but an ultra runner would thinks this is a fun idea. At 8:00 PM I thought it would be a great evening for a run, 30k later I pulled back into the house. Couldn't ask for a nicer night for a Spring run! Now off to get a 3 hour trail run in. Enjoy your running everyone!!!!

Nothing like 3 hours out on the trails to clear a busy mind, the best part I was only five minutes from home. I am sure luck to be a trail runner in the Black Hills of South Dakota!

SOOO can relate! Three plus years of running and I am down 45 from when I started. But, I am still 'morbidly obese' according to a doctor. While I have a heart as healthy as a 25 year old, at 44 and with a few medical obstacles, I will never be fast, lean or thin. So, when I see my own race pics, I rarely share them for the sale reason. Society has gotten us 'bigger' guys (and girls) thinking that if you are not thin, people don't want to look at you. To that, I would give the proverbial finger. But, that's not who I am in a literal sense. Keep up the FANTASTIC work and post those pics! Us big guys are what make those skinny guys look so good at races! LOL
